Oct. 4, 2024—The Cy-Fair High School Band earned second place at the Bands Of America North Houston Regional on Sept. 28 at Woodforest Bank Stadium in Conroe.

“Our band members have been hard at work since July working tirelessly in the heat of summer to prepare for this season,” said John Nelson, Cy-Fair band director.  “We are all satisfied that the planning, skill development and long term sacrifice our students have invested in has resulted in success.”

After a strong showing at the state competition last year, everybody was looking forward to what would come next.

“I think it's amazing, inspiring and it touches emotion,” said Ana Martin, Cy-Fair principal. “I'm so very proud of our band students and their earning of second place. The show they have put together this year is amazing.”

The band’s 2024 production is called “Gravity.”

The Cy-Fair High School band will perform its 2024 production entitled “Gravity” at the Bands of America South Houston Regional contest on Oct. 5.

“It’s really an abstract representation and a literal representation of what it means to have the weight of the world on your shoulders,” said Mark Davis, Cy-Fair senior drum major.

Twenty-four bands competed at the preliminary round with 12 finalists advancing to the final round.

“My confidence went up a lot because we were surrounded by so many bands that have been considered better than us,” said Addie Sessums, Cy-Fair junior clarinet. “But we later realized that we are the band that is considered ‘better.’ It changed my viewpoint on a lot of things and now I feel more confident when we walk on the field because I know how good we are.”

The band will compete on Oct. 5 at the Bands of America South Houston Regional contest at Challenger/Columbia Stadium in Webster.
